: I need a new 40 gal gas water heater to be installed in my garage in Orange County, Ca. I would like to know the best manufacturers and their installers,if possible. Price is a consideration also. I want a 10 or 12 year guarantee. Thanks IMHO, the best waterheaters are sold only to plumbers through plumbing supply houses. I wouldn't buy a heater from HD or Lowes. I agree with Gary, call several plumbers. As far as warranty goes, labor is often not covered on a water heater warranty. Sears, I know, charges for reinstall of a faulty water heater.
