If a drain is clear enough for water to drain, then any chemical will just drain through. If the drain is clogged, then a chemical mix with the water in that is back up and be too weak to do anything unless it such a powerful chemical that (a) you and I couldn't buy it and (b)it would destroy your plumbing. We Americans are brainwashed by the advertising media to believe that there is a quick and easy fix in a pill or a can for everything. You can add to the list, but easy and instant cures/fixes for hemorrids, worn out engines, physical fitness, obesity, meal preparation, reading problems, and clogged pipe are just a few of the things that we are suckered into believing. Sometimes these things may be just a drain on our wallets, but sometimes they can be dangerous and harmful. Chemicals in drains fits both of those catagories. If the drain clogs, call a plumber. It isn't clogged, leave it alone.
