In response to Re: Leaking drain pipe under old house -- no basement, no crawlspace
: We have a drain pipe leaking under our old house. Unfortunately, we only have a basement under half the house and the leaking pipe is in the no crawlspace, no basement portion. We are fearing we will have to excavate under the house from the basement up to wherever the leak is (could be as far as 20 feet). Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this?

Yes, I did a remodel on a turn of the century home with no crawl space. Where we added the new toilet and lav, we took up the floor. Where we added the new tub and tied into the existing drainage line, they dug a tunnel for me--about 10'. The tunnel thing was really really difficult to work in (it really sucked!). Unless you have irreplaceable flooring, you may want to consider taking the floor up.
