In response to Re: leaks when connecting sink stopper pipe to plastic piping
: I have connected the metal pipe that is part of my sink-stopper kit to a new plastic piping "slip joint extension tube." I followed the instructions and did not use any sealent and only tightened the nuts over the washer with my hand, but there is a slight leak.

I assume you are talking about the joint where the metal tailpiece fits down into a plastic extension that goes to the trap. If so, get a pair of channel-lock pliers and tighten the plastic jam-nut tight, not just hand-tight. All the instructions for those things say to make them hand-tight, and not coincidentally all of them leak. When they're tight they work fine.
