:You need to check your local codes. In many areas you can't even buy the flex gas line unless you are a certified installer. Also requires special tools.
As far as underground pipe, again, local codes vary. In this area ( San Diego), galvanized or black iron is not allowed underground. Must be the flex, or epoxy coated iron. All fittings and scratches must be primed and taped. There are other code requirements involving non-metallic gas pipe: tracer wire, warning tape, etc.
Gas can make your house look like downtown Baghdad. Why fool around; hire some professional help.
