: I guess you could look at it two ways:
: 1.) You're removing ground water (which is good) that normally wouldn't be removed if there wasn't a hole in the sump.
: 2.) The pump is working overtime and you may want to keep a spare on hand. It appears you're on a high water table.

Also, check see how far you're sump is dumping the water from the house. I had one that was only dumping directly outside the house. Seemed like the same water was going around and around to me. I put the exit into a lawn drain of non-pref. pipe that exited about 20 yards away down a slope and the amount of water draining into the sump decreased by about 80%. Also changed some lawn grading and made some additional lawn drain pipes to divert water in rainstorms b/c of grade problems that sloped towards the house.
