I noticed your query and thought I might throw in an idea or two. Black stain and residues can also occur from the presence of SRB or sulphur reducing bacteria. As Joe said, it is unlikly to be iron related bacteria. Have a look in some pipe at the well head and at ther pre or course filter. Does it smell bad? Is it mostly filled with slimy material? If so you have a bacteria problem.
