: I know the hot water side (there are two knobs - one for cold and hot), has some dirt clods in it. I don't know how to take it apart to clean it. I turned off water, unscrewed and took off the dial, popped off a metalic piece, and now I'm looking at a round plastic piece that has a semicircular piece and another rectangular piece inside of it. I know I need to take this part off. It seems to be threaded into the pipe. I don't know if this just unscrews or not. And also I'm afraid of breaking it. Does this part just unscrew? Will a pair of channel lock plyers do the trick?

We really need to know more about what you have before anyone can advise. I do not have a clue as to the brand (or disassembly procedures) by your description. Any other distinguishing markings?
