You need to cap off the line while it is accessible and leak test with snoop/soapy water. By code you are supposed to test with 10 psi air and have no leakage for I think 15 minutes (trusting my memory here). Remember, 10 psi is TOO HIGH for most gas appliances and your meter, so to do this right you need to isloate and disconnect all gas appliances, isolate and disconnect the meter, press up to 10 psi with your compressor and check for leaks.

You can get a pretty good idea of the tightness of the joints by capping off and testing just with the gas supply pressure.
