The valve needs to be replaced. The complexity of the job depends on how the valve is connected to the supply line and what your skills are. For example, if the valve is screwed into the supply line, it is really simple, but if it is a compression fitting, it will be a little more difficult for a novice. As suggested, a temporary cap will get you by until the valve can be replaced.
