: The Delta faucet in the bathroom sink was leaking.When I took it apart I found ther was no rubber washer, only a flat piece of metal. I bent the metal piece just a bit with a screwdriver and put it back together and it does not leak, at least for now. Is this the proper way to repair this type of faucet?

The metal piece sounds like it is a part from the stem that became detached. If that's the case, I would replace both stems, seats and springs. Delta replacement parts are very common.
