ABS is glued using a solvent glue.
Pipe joint compound is considered a thread sealant. It's non-sticking.
The ABS I use comes as pipe, I haven't seen flat strips. They may make them, but not for plumbing.
This repair is for a roof rack? I hope it doesn't have to carry much weight.
