: It should be backer board; green board is not a sufficient underlayment for tile in a shower. The backer board should overlap the flange on the tub, but should stop at least 1/4 inch above the horizontal tub surface to prevent wicking. A gap of 1/8 or so should be left between the first tile and the tub. Many people grout this joint; I prefer a good (flexible) mildew-inhibited caulk. |
