: I would like to replace the drain in my bath tubs. I used a wrench that fits over the the cross piece in the bottom of the drain. The cross piece broke when I tried to remove it. How else can I remove the old drain from the tub side of things. Reply: Those wrenches are basically for tightening, and rarely work for removal. A saw-zall will work to slice the strainer but you must be extremely carefull or you'll be going for a new tub. You will also need access to the bottom or rear of the tub to complete the repair. Good Luck. e-plumber
