It depends on what was flowing through the drain pipe. That is a common thing with soda fountain drains in restaurants for example.
: Digging up 4" cast iron sewer pipe, found a 1/4" gap at the bottom where it laid on the ground. There is a very deep pitch to the line. Someone suggested this was caused by someone putting a toxic chemical in the sewer line which ate the bottom of the cast iron pipe. Others say it was caused by standing water or just "old age". What do you think?
