The State of Washington requires the air-gap on the dishwasher drain. They will work with the high loop, but keep in mind, an inspector can require you to put the air-gap back in. Terry Love : We had one when we moved in in 1989 but since then changed our dishwashers at least twice. We do not think our state (Washington) requires us to have one and would like to replace it (it's ugly) with a soap dispenser. Do we absolutely need to have it? And if we do, is above the sink the only place for it?
