I have never seen a drain line that did not need sealant. Either joint compound at threads or gaskets for slip nuts. And hand tight does not do it in most cases. That is why we carry ChannelLock pliers on the job.
: There is no pressure on drain pipes, so sealants are not needed. You don't have to bear down with a pipe wrench on them either. Hand tight or very little more is all that should be needed.
