I bought a house built in 1964 three months ago. I have noticed that the water pressure is low, mainly in the showers. Also, we have limited hot water, about 15 minutes in the shower. My troubleshooting to date has found the following. Three year old 50 gallon electric water heater. I have replaced both elements and lower thermostat. I also have replaced both incoming and outgoing connectors. The house has been replumbed with copper not to long ago. The water main from the street has not, it is still galvanized. I am guessing that is causing my problem and I plan on replacing it. Can anyone give me some information on doing this along with the best material to do it with. It is about 80ft to the water main. Do I just dig a trench and run some pipe? or is there more to it?
