Water does not remain in a drain line (except for the traps) so it is not possible for the sewer to be frozen. Undoubtly, the problem is a clog. Do not pour a drain cleaner into it, they don't work and can create a hazzard for a plumber. Call a plumbing service that can professionally auger the drain. The small, homeowner-sized snakes seldom are enough to do a complete job and, while the problem may seem to go away, often it will just have pushed the clog further into the pipe and the problem will come back.
