Can't light pilot on gas dryer

I have an older model Gibson gas dryer (model DG27S6-V). The belt came loose and needed replacement so the gas line was disconnected to allow me to move dryer out away from a wall to do this repair. In trying to hook it back up, I am having trouble figuring out what's up with the pilot light. First of all I don't even know if it should be lit or if it is an electronic ignition type. If it is to be lit, what is best and safest way to do it. I have tried holding a flame to the opening that should have the pilot burning for long lengths of time without any luck. From what I can tell, there are no ignition buttons. I hope you can help. Thanks, Chris
