Yes, it is probably a pressure balanced valve and if so, the leak could be, and often is, a crack in the balancing spool, not the washers. And if so you need to replace that piece.

: Hi,
: I have a 3 1/2 year old Kohler showerhead with a constant drip. I have replaced washers on sink faucets in the past, but they had cut-off valves.

: Several questions:

: 1- Can I remove the valve stem from the showerhead WITHOUT shutting off the water at the main valve?
: 2- I would like to be prepared with the correct washer. Can you tell me size, type, etc.?
: 3- There appears to be one Phillips screw holding in the stem. Is there anything else involved in taking out the stem?
: 4- Anything else I should know?

: Thank you,

: Mel
