I have a strong smell that is coming from either my led drain pipes or the cast iron main drain pipe in my basement. The oddor smells like hot solder flux or creasote. Any suggestions why what would cause this or how to eliminate it? The pipes are 40 years old. The smell is nausiating. The smell has survived the replacment of the air conditioner and furnace, 100% refinishing (painting, tile, carpet, studs, drywall) of the basement. The basement doesn't leak. I've replaced as much of the pipe with plastic as I could, but yet the smell is still pretty strong in the closet that has open access to these older pipes.
I'd appreciate any help.
