: Start in new construction. You will learn the real nuts and bolts about the plumbing systems in buildings. Become very knowledgable in the tools of the trade, materials, and codes. With these professional skills developed, you could go over to the service side, either on your own or working for a good outfit.
I agree. Once you understand the nuts and bolts and the (current) codes - learned best through repetition, move into the service side where you will be exposed to all sorts of challenges and wonderful work that without a sound starting point, your work may be just as rough (looking for other words here).
