Reply: Plumbers use different techniques for different applications. Some will even say you do not need thread sealant of any type because of the tapered threads, which is nonsense. I like to play it safe and assemble the joint once with no leaks, I use the appropriate teflon tape and RectorSeal #5 on almost all threaded connections and rarely if ever have a leak.
