: Rather than digging an entire trench to expose the old water main, I'd like to dig 5 ft holes and use my pressure washer to blast the soil away between the 5 ft holes. Is this a good idea ? Reply: This is the exact way that our excavator prepares trenches for us for new water service piping, rarely is a complete trench needed. He doesn't use a power washer, but an air compressor and vacuum to "tunnel" in bewteen holes. Recently on a 75 foot run, there were only four holes dug, no couplings installed, one continuous run. The finished product looked great. Contact a local excavator. Good Luck & Happy New Year. e-plumber
