: : Drain from the washer is clogged- probably too much dog hair and lint. The trap is a vertical canister - looks like cast iron- with a clean out on top with the 1.5 inch square. My house is from 1921, and for all I know it hasn't been touched since then. I tried liquid wrench and a 14 inch pipe wrench, but can't budge the thing. Does anyone have any tips before I get a 3' pipe section to help the wrench out? Would heat help? Thanks.

: You can try to heat the nut, it may help to remove it.
: It sounds like you have a drum trap which should be replaced with a standard drain trap which is easier to snake and clean in the future.

It is best to replace the drum trap. We used to cut an X in the lead so that we could get a hand cable through the trap outlet. Then resolder closed. Some do-it-yourselfers have used electric tape. LonnythePlumber
