In response to Re: Hot Surface Iginition?
: What is the difference between a standing pilot water heater and a hot surface iginition water heater? some companies say that hot surface is more efficient. Not sure why this would be the case? Can you help?

Reply:
I have seen hot surface ignitors for boilers but not yet on WH's.
It would be more efficient than a standing pilot because it uses no gas to light the WH burner and it is not a "standing, constantly lit) pilot flame, so it will save energy.
