I had a 2 inch cast iron pipe with drain attached coming out of the floor in my basement shower stall. I chipped out the cement around the area to find what I think is 2 inch cast iron pipe? how can one tell? I wanted to know 2 things: 1) Does cast iron pipe needs to be prepared in any way before you slide and clamp a Fernco rubber coupling onto it. Do you need to sand/clean/etch the old cast iron pipe or do you simply slide the Fernco onto it as is? 2) What is the best way to cut the old cast iron pipe? I have about 8 inches of pipe going down into the ground and then there is a fitting connected to it that looks bulged/rounded. Can one hacksaw this pipe or is there a better way? Thanks |
