i have a similar problem. The kitchen sink lines drain down through the basement, running to the main drain. The sump pump also feeds into this line and each time it turns on, this loud gurgling noise comes back up through the kitchen sink; embarassingly loudly too I might add. I have been told that installing a check valve between the spot where the sump pump feeds in and the kitchen sink should eliminate this noise/gas/water, etc...feeding back up towards the kitchen sink. I'll find out in a couple of days.
