: longevity. The silicone will last longer and will not discolor as quickly as the putty.

: : I am trying to replace a new lavatory sink on a laminate countertop. Books suggest to apply a bead of the putty under the porcelain sink. Is it OK to use a bath and kitchen silicon instead of the putty? What is the difference between the plumber's putty and the silicon?

Reply:
Plumbers putty is never used to set a drop in lavatory basin onto a countertop of any type, the putty would look horrible in less than one week and the lav wouldn't be secure. Adhesive caulking or silicone should be used.
Good Luck. e-plumber
