High water level in my water softener salt tank
Posted by John Basinger on December 12, 2003 at 23:04:09:
I check the salt level in my water softener once a month. When I checked it on 12/06/03 I noticed that the water level in the salt tank was higher than normal. The water level is typically the bottom 1/4 of the tank but the water fills about 1/2 of the tank.

I've been checking the water level daily to see if it is changing but it is staying about the same level. It also seems that we are not getting soft water - but I haven't had it tested.

I don't know who the manufacturer is. It says 'Mermaid' on the cover over the control unit but I can't find a model number. It is an old unit, it has a mechanical control unit. We have had the resin replaced and the control unit has been serviced once during the 8 years we have been in the home.

I looked for a 'Mermaid' owners manual online but did not find anything.

I looked for do-it-yourself troubleshooting / repair info on the internet but didn't find anything with sufficient detail.

I've been unemployed for over a year now so I'm looking for do-it-yourself tips if it's at all possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
