: How difficult the job is depends on what has to be done and how much experience you have. If you are replacing a gas heater, then there isn't too much to do. If it is a completely new installation, and you have to run new gas lines, then it would be more involved, depending on how far the line has to be run and the geography of you home. On Lowe's side of it, they will do the muscle work of carrying the new heater in, taking the old one out and disposing of it, and they will make sure the gas and water lines are properly connected.

If Lowes installs the WH, make sure the installers are licensed plumbers. Here in NY, the local building depts. are requiring that if these type stores; H.D., Lowes, etc., advertise installation available with the purchase of a WH, that they better be licensed installers.
