In response to Re: toilet flange replacement??
: : : While painting the kids bathroom in a 3 1/2 year old home, I removed the WC to paint behind it. Upon removal, the flange is broken on one side and distorted (the flange bolts pulled the ABS up) on the other. Directly below the flange is an elbow turning towards the stack. What is the easiest fix. The WC will no seat properly now and has already caused a mould stain on the vinyl flooring from between the subfloor and vinyl. Any help is appreciated.

: : Are you on a concrete slab? Do you have a bsement or crawl space? Is this a second level or higher bathroom? The repair depends on the circumstances.

: Sorry, should have mentioned that...

: is a two storey home with typical 2x8 floor joists with 5/8 t&g plywood sub floor, with the bathroom on the second floor.

You are most likely going to have to cut the ceiling. However, as hj mentioned, calling a plumber may be your best choice. Sometimes there are alternatives, but it is hard to say without seeing it.
