Cast iron pipe is not easy stuff for a DIYer to work with, but it can be done. There are 3 ways you can cut it. Rent a cutter, use a reciprocating saw with a bi metal blade, or use a grinder. Leave a stub of pipe to make the transition. To make the change from cast to ABS, or any other type of pipe, get a Fernco coupler. These are just neophrene sleeves clamp on.
