In response to Re: washing machine drain
: I just moved into an older house that is on a sewer line. The problem is that the washing machine drains and backs up and sprays water out the drain hose. I have put a regular garden hose down the drain and it works fine. I have also made sure there was nothing clogging up the drain. The washer just seems to drain to fast for the drain? any suggestions woudld be appreciated

Many older homes have only (old partially clogged cast iron) 1-1/2" washing machine drainage lines. Washing machines now require 2" drainage lines. You either have an obstruction (if it is in the p-trap or standpipe, you cannot access that from the roof) or the washing machine is simply pumping water out too fast for the old drainage line to handle.
