1950s shower pan

We have a 1950s home on a slab and are having a problem with a leak from around the tile shower. The wood on the door facing next to the shower stays wet and the older tile has cracked along the floor of the door. We've been told two things - the leak must be coming from the shower fixtures inside the wall - but there is no damage on the outside fixture wall. Second, we've been told it is the older shower drain pan with holes that is leaking. There seems to be 4 or 5 inches of concrete on top of this drain pan and we'd surely like an experienced opinion before we tear up all this tile and concrete. Help! Thanks.
