1. You have to know the material the drain pipe is made of. 2. They require a certain amount of depth, usually achieved by cutting off the riser pipe. Not always an easy job for the DIY'er. 3. If you get the shallow ones they create a shelf under the toilet which can cause problems. 4. They only work if the correct one is used and it is installed properly. : Offset flanges work, that's why they make them.
