Pedastal sink -DIY or Plumber?

I just moved into a new apt. to find that the existing bathroom sink had a leaking problem. The 18" vanity is rotting and the entire apartment smells of mildew. I recently purchased a pedastal sink to replace the old vanity, however it seems like a lengthy and detailed process. Would you recommend a plumber for the job, and if so, how much would it cost to remove the existing vanity and install the new pedastal sink? Thanks for your help.
