When your pump kicks on it is causing a surge "water hammer" in your system. I do not have much experience with a small system like yours but the hydralics do not change. You could install a pressure relief valve beyond the pump outlet to take the surge. You can get one at a plumbling supply house or a waterworks supply. You might also try a surge supressor that you can get at your local hardware or home depot, which would be the cheaper route. Good luck
