The actual process will depend on the physical location of the various elements, but the usual way is to find a means to run the drain sideways between the two joists and then drop down in all until you can access a drain line. : I am adding a bath to my upstairs that currently has no plumbing. I have 2"x8" floor joists. It seems like I am limited to bringing the 3" drain down somewhere between the two joists that my toilet happens to sit between. I can't drill a 3.5" hole. : Is there any engineering solution? I would be willing to add floor joists, although these new joists would have to have a hole drilled through them also.
