How do I get 3" drain past floor joist?

I am adding a bath to my upstairs that currently has no plumbing. I have 2"x8" floor joists. It seems like I am limited to bringing the 3" drain down somewhere between the two joists that my toilet happens to sit between. I can't drill a 3.5" hole. Is there any engineering solution? I would be willing to add floor joists, although these new joists would have to have a hole drilled through them also.
