Drain Cleanout Threads Rusted Beyond Use

I just bought an old house and I have inherited some plumbing problems. What I'm working on now is a drain pipe for two sinks on my basement floor. The cleanout on this pipe had an old washcloth stuck in it acting as a plug. I took the washcloth out last night, and the opening where the plug should go is terribly rusted. I think I can see where it used to have threads, but they are completely beyond use (I bought a plug for it, but there's no chance of it catching). Are there any alternatives for plugging the cleanout short of replacing it? If at all possible, I don't want to permanently seal it, I do want to be able to use the cleanout if necessary.
