: A very strange thing happened with the plumbing in my house today. The shower was running, the washing machine : was on and I was cleaning another bathroom when very loud banging started in the basement. I ran down to see : what was happening, and the pipe that comes from the hot water heater was shaking violently and hitting the : rafters above (thus making the bang, bang, bang noise). We immediately turned off all the water and it stopped. : After waiting a while, we started the shower again and now all seems OK. : Still, I'm concerned something is wrong. Should I call a plumber in? We've turned on water at various places and can't : seem to get it to happen again. : I'd appreciate any advice. Are you on a city hook-up or a country (well system) ?
