Bath Remodel... Steel Waste to PVC ..Where?

I am renovating a bathroom and increrasing the tub size from 60" to 72". I must move the waste & vent lines and there is another bathroom directly above I am not changing. I want to replace the 2" & 1 1/2 Steel waste and vent with PVC and reconnect to the steel for the second floor. Do I connect in a horizontal run or change in a verticle run, or I am all wet here? I have the rubber-like connectors with metal screw straps. Can anybody help? marko
