If the handle is stripped buy a new one that fits your stem. If the stem is stripped, a "fit all" handle will work for a time but will eventually strip it further, until you reach the point where you need a new stem and handle.

: Hi! My newly purchased condo has a stripped cold water faucet in the bathtub...it won't turn on the water, just spins.Somebody told me I could buy a replacement handle for stripped stems pretty cheaply. Is this true? (And if it is true, is this something a novice could do?) Money is really tight right now and I can't afford a large plumbing bill. I also have to fix the toilet (which keeps running) in the same bathroom. Can anybody give me some advice? THANKS!!
