My upstairs American Standard Toilet Tank just "broke" causing a flooded bathroom. Well, one thing led to another and now we are replacing the flooring. We had Vinyl Flooring (3 layers of it) and wish to install Ceramic Tile. I have removed everything down to the subfloor and the Toilet Flange. The top of the Toilet Flange sits about 3/4" above the subfloor surface. I am told I need to put down 1/2" Plywood on top of the subfloor and then 1/4" Hardibacker underlayment. By the time I put the tile down the top of the Toilet Flange will be about 1/4" below the surface of the new tile. Can I safely set the toilet with a wax ring given this difference. I do not want any leaks and I want the new toilet to flush good. The Toilet Bend and the Flange are PVC. Mike |
