In the basement of my house, when a toilet is flushed or a considerable amount of water is used on the second floor, the draining of that water causes a musty sewer smell to engulf the basement. A few months ago the main floor drain in the basement was blocked and I snaked it clean, clearing what ever it was about 25 feet into the floor drain. I do not know wether or not the smell was happening then or if it was after.
Problem occurs only in the basement and only after a volume of water is drained from the second floor. It does not happen from the basement shower or toilet or washer, nor from the first floor sinks or dishwasher.
Anyone have any Ideas?
