I suspect that this was a two man job and required that the pump be hoisted from the pit. In that case, the bill is about correct. : I recently had to have tampons cleared from the propeller of a grinder pump in my school's sewer lift station. As far as I know, from observation and from the description of the work on our bill, this was a routine job that consisted entirely of labor, no parts. We were charged a little over $650. My gut feeling is that this price is outrageous, but I realize that I might have unrealistic expectations based on lack of experience in this field. I would appreciate some help from people more knowledgeable than I, to determine whether my judgment of this situation is rational -- or not.
