Thanks for advice. A real quick follow up. Is there a minimum spacing that should be maintained between copper pipes running next to each other?

: Illustrations, in any book, show the ideal. Pipes are attached to the joists in most installations. You can use plastic pipe anchors which have a spacer built in. The reason for the spacer is to minimize potential expansion and water flow noises.

: : Is there a reason you shouldn't run copper lines against a joists? In plumbing books I've seen, they always use blocks between joists.

: : Thanks
