Tub Installation

Due to water damage I am installing durarock around my tub/shower area. The style of tub that I have does not have a 1 inch flange around the edge, but more of a raised sill. What steps do I take to ensure a good seal in this area? I was going to run the durarock down to the sill, and use a silicone sealant to complete the seal. Should I be concerned with butting the durarock up to this sill, due to the durarock shifting with time? Any suggestions?? Also, how do I treat the joints where the durarock meets standard drywall outside of the tub area? Do I use standard joint compound or mortar? Thank you for any and all advice!!
Respectfully,
Jay
